what is the best spring compressor tool for 1994 q45 under $50 dollars? and can still be used if i decided on lowering springs. Will a regular MACPHERSON strut spring compressor works? thanks

i dont see why a macphearson spring compressor wouldnt work, as its the same sort of idea..... except with the integrated hub.

You can just rent them from autozone.

So, I've heard it's around $40 from Advance auto parts. I'm not sure yet, but if that's the case i think a $30-$50 spring compressor tool (macpherson-type) is worth it?

let me say that something like that is not something id go cheap on.... Broken spring compressor while compressing springs is a BAD thing! THe Q springs are going to be pretty strong compared to most other springs that would be used since it sgoing to be a bit heavier than most other cars.

I've been using these the last 2 years and haven't had any problems yet.

Just have to be sure and lube the threads and keep each side proportional.

I tried some similar to anlasak's that and backed off before I even took them off. Maybe mine were the cheap harbor freight cousin to those. I ended up going to Autozone and renting their loaner tools. Works well if you have a location nearby... free, you don't have to store them, and they seem to be very solid. They actually bolt on to the spring, so unless something breaks there's nothing to slip off. My assumption is that Autozone wants to make sure their loaner tools are beefy for liability reasons.

Ponzy, I think you would need two of the type you posted per spring. That one looks like it's designed to fit inside the spring - but on the Q the shock is already there.

Like Wes said, I wouldn't go cheap on this... those springs could easily take your head off!
