So I just attempted a spray tint on my tail lights...it was a disaster. I did 2 coats of Rusto lens tint, then sprayed clear coat and it literally melted the Rusto tint right off. It looks runny, there are drips that pooled almost a 1/4 inch thick, absolutely terrible.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I know to try and wetsand, but the drips are so thick I dont even know if it will ever look even again. Should I make this my excuse to buy the eBay black LED tails?

So I just spent over 2 hours wetsanding and sprayed one more coat of tint, looks much better but far from perfect. I would go and get them sprayed but that kind of defeats the purpose of DIY cheap. Guess Ill just have to deal for now...

dude, theres the answer to your fail!!! i used the same exact stuff to tint my tails. i cleaned it, used adhesion promoter, 3 coats of Tint..& that was it. you gotta let the tint dry to a tack between coats of course.(notice i didnt say SAND/CLEAR COAT) -cuz you dont need it.i know its kinda late but i hope this helped! now you know..

Well....I trusted the write up in the How To section, and it recommended clear coat. I wanted it anyway to add a little protection to the tint. I waited half an hour between the two coats of tint, then waited about 4 hours before spraying the clear. I really didnt think it would be an issue but Ive never done anything like this before.

Soooo...I kind of need to strip it all off and start from scratch. You think mineral spirits or something like that would work without damaging the plastic housing? Seems like you know your stuff....

Or... throw an LBC overlay on it, and it should cover your damage and provide the desired look!

Haha! I knew someone was going to come in with that, didnt think it would be LBC himself. I actualy might buy the LED tails and go for the LBC overlay. I thought I was taking the easy route with the spray, ended up costing more and doing some gnarly damage to my lights and my mental. Should have gone overlay from the start.

doesn't nail polish remover do the trick? i think i remember reading that somewhere, or some sort of similar stuff like paint thinner, just don't get any on your car

I dont think nail polish remover is going to be strong enough. This stuff had like a chemical reaction with each other, it was like a sticky mess of black ooze, kind of like the blob. I would try paint thinner or something like turpentine but I dont want to melt the plastic housing either.

I honestly think I might just buy the LED tails and then LBC 'em up...

GOOF OFF...no im not messing, thats actually the name of the product.

Sold at Home Depot. Took 3 coats of tint and 1 coat of clear COMPLETELY off with no damage to the housing. Seriously saved me from buying new tails.

Spray tint round 2 minus clear coat this weekend.

Straight blackout. I originally was going to mask the reverse light and do some sort of custom Nissan burger shape over the stop lights but decided that would be too much "Dodge" in my Altima if you know what Im saying. I dont know, sounded like a good idea and I even cut the mask stencil but then changed gears to BLACK!

Probably only going to do one coat, I think that should be enough.
