Anyone used the do it yourself liner stuff? I want to snatch my bedliner out. Right now no rust but bed rails look like crap where paint got rubbed off. I want to avoid possible rust and do the DIY liner. Is it worth a crap?

I used the Duplicolor bedliner kit, I wouldn't leave home without it. Not as nice as the Rhinoliner but it does do its job.

Thanks REV, I just want to toss the bed liner but need to cover the scuff marks. If it covers decent and does not peel off I will go for it. Where did you get it and what did it cost? Did it cover fully the bed and rails? I have a black truck so color match is simple. Just want to be sure it sticks well. Not so much worried how it protects the bed as I do not toss much back in the bed. Just want to make sure it sticks well and covers well.

Oh it sticks well, won't peel up at all. I did my bedrails with it no problem, you just can't see it because my tonneau.

Here's my thread about it.

A guy I used to work with did it to his truck. I thought he had it profesionaly done. He said the trick is all in the prep work.

Thanks guys, just did not know anyone who had used the DIY kit. I feel more comfortable doing it no. I hate those plastic bedliners. Time to pull mine out for good. Thankfully the factory liner has not caused any rust in my bed. I pulled it when I bought the truck, bed looks GREAT, but the railing area has all the paint scuffed off. The roll in liner sounds like the way to go.

Herculiner is the best DIY stuff. Goes on with a roller and has a nice antiskid surface

Prep IS everything. Sand the surface so the paint is rough, and then clean thoroughly with acetone (wear rubber gloves when handling that stuff). Roll it on. 2 coats is best. A 1 gallon can should be enough for 2 coats. Make sure to tape off anything you don't want this stuff on, because it WON'T come off. Lastly, ensure it's mixed very well. The anti skid surface is created by tiny rubber balls in the mixture. Keep it mixed well for even coverage. I used a paint mixer attachment on my drill when I did the sides of my truck. It's been almost 10 years now since I did it.

Thanks, I think this is going to be great, a lot of work but hey nothing good comes easy. I really would love to just do the rail tops and tailgate top and leave my clean pretty bed open. it has hardly a scratch in it. I may get a small can and just do it like the top rail protectors. I hardly ever haul stuff so it is more for looks than protection.
