Spray painting Intercoolers...

Ok, I have mixed reviews, I searched, and I just need some Hard evidence. Does Spray painting an Intercooler, say flat-black make it lose its efficiency? If so, by how much, Is it noticable? If not, what kind of flat-black spray-paint should I use?....Thanks in Advance.

Most intercooler companies will tell you no it doesn't. i feel that it's ok, and intend to do it. With the exception of using a thick paint, flat black is thin will work well enough. Anodizing is probably the best way to go about it.

i would think that you would want a light coat not a thick one

What would be good to spray on it to keep it from rusting? Flat black is going to be my choice.

Intercoolers are aluminum, they don't rust.

I dont see how it could mess up cooling or air flow,Just as long as you dont put a whole alot of paint on it.I did my radiator with one light coat of black.

I wonder if I could Anodize my IAP intercooler? Or if I could talk Marc into anodizing it for me....hmm

Dont ask marc to anodize it, im sure he will just spray paint it the same way he calls his manifold and intercooler piping "powdercoated".

as for spraypainting em. I have the IAP intercooler painted a light coat of flat black.~Sam

Oh God Sam... how I miss that paint job. I think I'm going to end up with a slim front mount, with endtanks and visible charge pipes painted black.
