My silver Q has developed spots on the hood, trunk and roof. They look rather deep under the clear coat. Anyone know how this can be cleared up?

It's not rust. It looks like water spots but don't rub out with scratch remover. A friend called it pitting and said it is common on silver cars???

i have the same problem!!!! i always thought it was the bird crap that i didn't get off in time. not real bad unless you're up pretty close and look across the hood, roof or trunk. in a few months i might re-apply the 5 star, first using a swirl remover and polish before applying the 5 star to see if this will help. if not, i'm sure the next step will be a professional detailing w/ a buffer (a little scary if not dealing with an experianced detailer!!!).

Clay bar will help.

I have seen "pitting" on other 90-96 Q's. Mine has some on the roof.

I took it to a VERY high-end paint/body shop (VERY high-end) and they said it is etching on the clearcoat. They recommended wet-sanding the car and re-clear-coating it, showed me a car (70's Jag w/original paint) they did it to and it was GORGEOUS.

I'll do this next summer most likely.

greg, even after clay barring, the pits or etching was still visible. i spoke with chad at 5 star about the steps in applying the product, he said as long as not using wax, can apply swirl removers and/or polishes before the 5 star. i'll be testing the benifits of a swirl remover and 5 star on my mom's crv (black w/ visible swirls). let you guys know how it turns out. will try this step before the wet sanding, etc. THEN A CAR COVER!!!!!
