Anyway I had done the math and knew they would stick out farther I was just asking to see if I had missed something, it's a wider wheels so even if it was the same offset as my wheels now then it would still stick out farther...
Just realize that given a 17x7, a 17x8, and a 17x9, all with the same offset, calculating clearances is extremely easy.
the 8" will stick out an additional 1/2 inch towards the fender, and an additional 1/2 inch towards the suspension than the 7". The 9" will stick out 1" extra on both sides. If the offsets are not the same, simply use the above reasoning, and then add or subtract clearances depending on the offset.

Making an 8"+0 fit is all going to boil down to what tire and how much camber you are running. If you ran a 195, you could probably fit them fairly easy, with minimal camber and not rub, as long as you did some fender work.
Either way, I highly suggest not buying 15" wheels, unless you plan on running azenis 615 in the 205/50/15 variety, which would be an excellent choice, because of how cheap you can get the tires for 15". Pretty much any other tire you could get for that setup is just going to have too much sidewall flex.
When you get coilovers, you will see what I mean. Big sidewalls with coilovers feels really bad. You really have to match your wheel/tire setup with your suspension setup, or else your car will not be balanced, and won't feel good at all.
Here is 17x9" +20, bare rim mounted on my raised car (like 0 degrees camber at full rebound, as it is here). 8"+0 will stick out an additional 7mm over this setup. Hope this helps.
