Was mentioned once before in a Most anticipated game thread. Now that we're only 2 months from release let's open the floodgates and take a look at this game.

http://www.spore.com

I'd seen it, read a little hadn't bothered much with it. But the other day they released the creature creator demo, a friend of mine was all excited about it, so i went and downloaded it. Pretty much the demo just let's you see and play with the creature editor, designing, coloring, and a little bit of sandbox testing with what you made.

What i found quite interesting was how the design influences your creature. Will Wright kept calling it "Procedural generation" what it means is that how you make your creature, legs, feet, placement of the limbs, body mass/size etc DYNAMICALLY AFFECTS YOUR CREATURES MOVEMENT! The game basically takes a skeleton and makes a different stance/walking pattern for whatever bone structure you make! needless to say this will really make your creature truly unique.

Watching some of the gameplay videos, i have to say the early part looks more fun. I'd rather control a creature and play with it in the world, then have the creature i spent the time building.. become just a piece of scenery in some city. But i will definitely be trying this game out when it releases!

So what about everyone else s opinions?

Some GREAT creations from youtube.

I like the idea of the game. But I'm not so sure it would keep my interest for very long. MY GF wants it though, so I'm sure I'll get to try it out.

I think it's going to be awesome. You dont see many new ideas for games anymore, especially good ones. I'll be picking it up in September.

I LOVE the idea. It seems like exactly my type of game. From what I understand, during the final "phase" of play, the player will have TOTAL control of their entire universe. It's a sandbox God game. There looks to be so much potential that you could play the game for years and still experience new things within it's world.

I'm looking forward to trying out quite a few different developmental ideas for races.

I like the idea of having a sort of passive online game. You dont get to play online with other players, but if you are connected to the internet you are constantly downloading other players content. As you grow, other people's creations will inhabit the worlds with you.

Yeah, it adds a LOT more depth to the content generation system.

Yeah that was one of the things i really liked. Nothing better then content sharing.

On a sidenote... this game is going to drag out forever. They're probably going to do something like the original sims where they keep adding expansion after expansion. Driving the final cost of the game into the hundreds.

Well i actually went out and bought the CC package, as well as pre-ordering the game. The purchasable Creature Creator is MUCH better then the free download. i've just been goofing around making stupid stuff with it.

gamespot or somewhere was talking about this. Because of the user generated content, expansions are going to have to be either new tools, or massive additions to the gameplay (ie underwater sentient creatures - which at the moment aren't possible)

So at the moment, that's it for updates/news/my thoughts.

Yeah, I'm not sure Spore will follow the standard set by the Sims games. Wright talks a lot about how he's excited to separate it from that lineage and do something that's "free" of their preconceptions.Plus, the game design doesn't really lend itself to expansions as well as the Sims games did. This game uses the "massively singleplayer" aspect to generate new content, which was nearly ALL the Sims expansions ever added.

I bought the full Creature Creator as well. It's a lot of fun to play around with. It'd be awesome if we could import our creatures to the full game once it releases.

hehe, that was kind of the point of releasing it. All your creatures are stored on your comp, as well as the sporepedia if you upload it. So anything you create now WILL be available in your game once you start playing.

Might check it out when it comes on the PS3. Let's hope for the best.
