I bought my 2008 Nissan Rogue last year. Soon after I bought it I noticed a really low metal grinding sound when I made left hand turns, which could only be heard in a parking lot. Last week my AWD light came on (and stayed on) one morning as I was driving to work. That afternoon when I turned on the Rogue to go home the AWD light did not stay on. Just being cautious I made an appointment with the mechanics for the next afternoon for them to check it out. On my way to the mechanic the following afternoon, I noticed a pretty loud metal grinding sound as I was accelerating on to the highway, it occurred when I went over 2000 RPM but the noise did not last long. The mechanics checked it out and took it for a test drive and told me that everything appeared okay. That same afternoon, I had to run some errands and sporadically when I accelerated I would hear that loud metal grinding sound, which would stop as soon as I took my foot of the gas pedal. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

did you notice any fluid on the ground where you park your car? Perhaps the grinding has to do with the transfer case, have you replaced the transfer case and/or differential oil?

How many miles on your Rogue?

What did the mechanic check? Was it a Nissan dealership?

I had kinda like the same sound on my Rogue before, after hitting 50mph or more the grinding sound would disappear. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a support in the exhaust system that was broken and the vibrations were making that sound, they soldered everything back and no more grinding sound after.

i just had this same problem few days but in toyota sienna AWD. upon investigation L/H wheel bearing fail which will make grinding sounds on right hand turn but not all the time.. i suggest check your front end suspension specially R/H wheel or seek your "trusted mechanic".
