Post

Just purchased a used 2008 Nissan Rogue S, with 37k on it. Love it so far. I must admit I am completely traumatized by my 2002 Ford Escape (which was a lemon). So any little sound that I'm hearing is causing my heart rate to accelerate. What I am experiencing is a sporadic chirping like sound which when it starts is continuous. Someone told me I should have the Tensioner and Idle Pulley checked. So my question is about how much would it cost to repair and/or replace the Tensioner and Idle Pulley?

Welcome to the NICOClub Rogue forums Bennyr!

To answer your question,

Typically, the idler/tension pulley is not a component that tends to require replacement. I have a combined 228,000mi on 2 different Nissan's (Rogue and Altima). They both had the same motor and never replaced a tensioner on either.

The accessory drive belt however is only good for about 40-60,000mi before it starts to make squeaking noises. I would recommend have the drive belt inspected and changed if needed. It's not expensive, and as a DIY project is about a 6/10 in terms of difficulty. If you've done oil changes and such, a drive belt is not much harder to replace.
