Has anyone here spooled their rearend or heard of anyone doing it?? I was wondering what the effects would be on an independent rear suspension setup or if it would just flat tear it up. I know on a solid rear axle it chirps and causes the axle to "walk" around corners, but it kicks on the straights. Any thoughts??

What you are describing sounds like welding the spider gears. I have never head it described as "spooling". Instead of wasting a good rearend, by welding it, get a Nismo clutch style LSD. It will have all the benedfits of "spooling" your rearend, and won't have nearly as many problems. They cost about $750, and are fairly straight forward to install.

There is actually a part called a spool built for the rear end. It is just a 1 piece connector for the rear end that holds the ring gear. I have only seen it done for hotrods but was wondering if there was anyone that had done it. The same in essence as welding the gears but cheaper and way less painful. Made for drag racing.

Instead of buying that part, do it right, and get the Nismo LSD. You can set it for 60/80/100% transfer, so it will work to put the power to the road a lot like the "spool", but still be more user friendly around the corners.

AHHHHH, adjustable, I like that. It definately sounds better than spooling it. I'll look into it more when I can't hold traction well anymore.....almost there. Thanks for the info!
