When does your turbo begin to boost?

Please give turbo type, load (percent of thottle) and a few RPM & boost levels.

my precision pt61 oncenter turbo .68 turbo on a revhard manifold is spooling right at about 3700rpms, about 35-40%throttle was my old to4b not sure in what gear.

Haha, agreed. Spool time = instantaneous for a T3 Super 60 (.48 a/r turbine anyway)

What kind of T3 Super 60 do you have? I'm upgrading from the .48 a/r turbine to the stage III .63 a/r turbine (getting it brand-new).

Hope it doesnt slow the spool time down too much, but I'm sure the higher flow capability (read: power up top) will more than make up for it.

So when are you boosting, any time you are passed what load? 70%? 80%? What RPM range? Obviously you are not at 14psi at 800RPM.

I'm going to tune for a super 60 and I'd like to know where to start pulling timing for my base tune. I'd appreciate whatever info you can give.

I would get about 3 psi at around 2000, by 3000 it would be at max boost setting, whatever I would set it to(8-12).

For daily driving, I would boost 1-3 psi at 40-60% throttle from 2-3k rpm.

This was on a z31 turbo btw.

I never really got that technical when watching it spool...I just know that it boost so much quicker than any other turbo car i've been in...

Like, I could be cruising in vacuum at 2750 rpm (3rd gear), MASH the throttle (all the way to the floor), and it'd hit 11 psi by 3250...that's very little rpms to build that boost, especially when i was just abruptly mashing the pedal and not building up to it...I have a video of that if you're interested actually

I wouldn't mind seeing it. My turbo has a .63 stage 1 but my understanding is that the 60 trims are basically insta-boost.

I think I'm going to start pulling timing around where closed loop tapers off and just assume full boost at 3000 or over 50% load.

i will say it also.....................there is no lag with the str8 T3. only the lag that you imagine there to be. i get full boost at whenever the pedal is touching the floor. id guesstimate at 30% throttle, boost is being made?

T3 ceramic coated .63ar housing, stage 3 wheel/T04E 50trim.

Judging by dyno graph, full boost at 3700-3800rpm.

50% throttle+ is full boost.

Just so you guys know, full boost at lower RPM doesn't mean you get full power at lower RPM.

IE, 300ft/lbs of torque at 3000rpm is 171hp...not exactly fast.. No matter what, the car doesn't really get a good pull going until about 4200rpm. That has NEVER changed on my car. NA, T04B, T04E...

Why don't you run a soft base map and allow for boost retard rather than creating one hard map. That will make it less likely to have holes in the tune.

Would you elaborate on that a little? I don't know what you mean by "soft & hard maps." You mean with a BTM?
