I have read the spoiler thread under Accessories and Modifications, but has anyone installed one of these? I'm looking at this one, on E-bay

It doesn't look all that difficult. I am just wondering about the quality of the ABS material.

Any advice?

Thanks

I am also interested in this one. I have contacted multiple happy buyers of this exact spoiler and not a single one of them had a bad thing to say about it - rather they all said that the installation was a breeze. Also, a couple of the people who responded had the same color Rogue as me and said that the paint match was exact.

I am waiting for warmer weather to buy one and install.

I haven't seen a memer of this forum with one of these aftermarket spoilers yet. I suspect they will closely match the OEM, but long term durability may be questionable. Most important is how it's fastened and sealed to prevent water leaks. Unless don't they use a similar system to OEM, you may be asking for trouble with rust and water entry into the vehicle.

If you decide to go ahead an purchase, please write up a review and post it here.

There is drilling involved with this install, even though the ad refers to "factory holes". I'd be nervous about drilling holes regardless, but especially if it's an aftermarket source that I'm not familiar with, like this ebay seller.

And like Philip said, it might look good after install, but if it causes leaks and deteriorates a few years down the road, you won't have any recourse. At least if a Nissan OEM part fails, you can go to the dealer and complain, especially if they do the install work.

I don't mean to be negative, there is a chance this item could be ok, but unfortunatley the chances are pretty good too that you'll be disappointed at some point down the line - just want to make sure you don't make a mistake!!

Yes, the Rogue does not come with the mounting holes pre-drilled... unless you are replacing the factory spoiler which is not the case here.

Good point Kerrton! Genuine Nissan accessories are covered under your new vehicle warranty... even if they were installed after you have taken delivery of your Rogue! Your Rogue has a bumper to bumper warranty for 36 months / 36,000 miles. If you purchased an extended warranty it's even longer.

If your warranty has since expired, the basic 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty for accessoreis still applies.

Also, the work for installation is warrantied if it's performed by a dealer. This may not be a biggie for most, but if you are at all concerned about drilling the mounting holes for the spoiler, bring it to the dealer.

From the warranty booklet:
HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY:Except for replacement audio components, this warranty is for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation or purchase, whichever is earlier. However, the warranty on Genuine Nissan replacement parts, Genuine NISMO S-tune parts, and Genuine Nissan accessories installed in a Nissan vehicle while the vehicle is covered by a Nissan warranty, which would have covered the part had it been installed in the vehicle at manufacture, will not end before the end of that warranty

I used to have aftermarket spoiler. It was a good quality until my mom backed up into a tree. That was kinda pain in the butt to install it because they give you simple sticky lines that goes on the bottom of the spoiler and that's how you mark where to drill. One of my lines moved a little bit and I drilled slightly in a wrong spot. My recommendation will be get the spoiler from a dealer because they give a nice diagram or drill only 2 holes on the sides and in the middle I would put some kind of silicone sealant.

While the eBay description write up on the spoiler you are considering sounds good, I'd personally like to see pictures of one "not installed" so I could inspect what I'm buying... or at least look for a seller that states "exactly the same as OEM" or something like that.

If you haven't already done so check out this thread. You can compare pictures of a spoiler purchased off eBay (the Blue one) to a genuine Nissan spoiler (the White one). You'll see the Nissan spoiler has pre-mounted weather stripping and 3M double sided tape, the mounting holes are threaded and the two center studs are pre-mounted all of which were missing from the eBay purchase.

It's possible the ABS quality could be the same, then again it could be inferior. I seriously considered buying my spoiler off eBay but eventually decided that saving $120 bucks by getting one off eBay wasn't worth the risk... especially if it turned out I wasted 100 bucks on an inferior product. I searched the net for several days and eventually found a genuine Nissan Rogue spoiler for $218 total price delivered... although in checking today it looks like $243 might be the best you can do.

You might want to check out this eBay'er as well. He also has a good write up, says all the right things and even offers a Lifetime Warranty... but then again...good luck finding the guy to make a warranty claim 5 years from now:

Good luck. Please report back to us with all the details once you've completed your purchase, as well as any installation tidbits once you've completed the install.

Thanks for the input. I am still on the fence. I can save over $150 and get this one off of ebay. I would apply my own dbl sided tape and caulk the top of it. If it lasts me close to 8-10 years, the usual time frame I keep a vehicle, I save. If I need to replace it down the road, I loose the $150 that I tried to save. I am sure that if I ever needed to replace it, I could go with a replacement OEM, or with a genuine Nissan one.

I am really considering the ebay one, but I hate the thought of loosing money
