What year Q45 do you have?

Have you looked at any junk yards?

You will need more than the spoiler, You will need a new sundeck with out a hole for the third brake light on the rear sundeck (Where the rear speaker are, thats where the sun deck is), You will also need the torsion bars unless you can go with out slaming your trunk.

How is the car that you have, Is it in GREAT mechanical shape?

Have you searched?

Welcome To NICO, Happy Holidays.

O I think I know the one you bought.

Have you looked at the stickies on this forum?

I think it will need a lot of work, Did you get the service history and a Carfax?

Did you drive before you buy?

Any problems at all even the slightest?

We have a thread here regarding that 38,000 mile 1990 q45 that was for sale a few weeks ago from Florida on Ebay- search for it!

Extremely good chance it will need its chain guides replaced immediatly, and transmission very soon, and all hoses/rubber due to age- time is the killer, not just miles-especially in the hot south.

Nothing $6,000 cant fix in the first year.

The metal guards I was prepared for...I had planned on that...But you guys are correct...old Luxury cars are a mystery...I was wondering about the VIN number.....wont check out on car fax...all I did was put a 500.00 deposit down so I am not finished with the purchase and if its a piece of junk of course I will stop the purchase.....I already nevrvous about the VIN number being incorrect...JNKNG01C8LM008840 ?

Found the thread.......basically you guys really dont know the car and neither do I...You cant find these cars with low mileage...The engine is spotless and the interior and paint are spotless as well....So if have to go thru the trans and replace the chain guards what else can I do but buy a newer one.......maybe someone on the forum has one all done for me to purchase>? What the Hay...its only money...I figure the body/interior and paint are worth that much and if you want a 90 model then what can you do...I dont have any time to disect this car from a 1000 miles away. I will probably take the car to Atlanta to have the chain guards changed and have the car checked out....Some of these cars have 300k on them....do I am not really worried. If the car sold for 1500.00 dollars or 4000.00 thats not much money these days.......I could have bought a beater that needed paint and an interior and really spent some money! I figure the car was cheap to get a nice body and interior......the engine looks clean and the guy claims the paint is not faded as its been garaged...so lets see what happens...anybody what to change the guards for me?

could you post up the link to it [ebay auction]?

If you want to email the guy in chicago, hit up user "3rd Q". His name is Paul, tell him you know Wes... Worst case scenario you might be able to have lunch and talk Q for a little bit!

I may be in chicago in the next couple weeks too.

Besides the above, I have no idea if the 1990 Q45 is wired for a trunk spoiler, Because in 1991+ they cam out with a Touring model which came with a spoiler.

Thats another issue you have to address.

But once you see it look in the trunk behind that black trim piece thats covering it.

the 90 Q hicas models still had the spoiler so i would assume its still wired for it.

worst case just leave the stock rear deck in place and have 2 stop lamps, or just leave the one in the cabin intact but unplug it.

To quote http://Q45.org:

1990 Infiniti Q45: The 1990 Q45 is the most sought after by performance enthusiasts for having the tightest and most responsive steering, quickest shifting, and an actual power rating of 300-305hp. Because of a "gentleman's agreement" among Japanese manufacturers, vehicles above a certain horsepower rating were not exported. Infiniti advertised 278hp, lower than actual output. Dealers offered BBS wheels, wood trim, and window tint as an option for customers. These options were not provided by Nissan.

1991 Infiniti Q45: Two new options joined for 1991: a traction-control system, and the world's first production "Full-Active Suspension (FAS)" In that latter setup, computer-controlled hydraulic actuators at each wheel generate forces in response to signals from 10 sensors to counteract body lean, nose lift and nose dive, and fore/aft pitch on wavy surfaces.

And leaving the rear window 3rd brake light unpluged, but still in the car is a safety hazzard, At least a police officer would see it that way.

I guess you could just find a spoiler......Glass it into the deck so it looks like one piece and run a brake wire up to it?

I've got one you can have for $100 plus shipping. Its a maroon color, similar to your interior.

I was originally considering it for mine but prefer my cars spoiler-less.

But you have other problems to tend to.

What problems will I have?

The car is headed for T3 for chain guard replacement and anything else it needs........

You probably dont understand that I did not want to restore a car...but mechanically I dont care what it needs....just did not want paint and interior work...

If you pay lets say 1000.00 what do you think you will get> A car that needs to be painted...5 to 10k...Interior work 1k to 5k

But I will keep you posted on a 38k Q might need...I had somebody look at it today and its spotless...so I think I did ok......Even a couple grand will be worth the money

Anybody have a 93 TCU for sale?

You're gonna be jus' fine then, and welcome to NICO! If you're prepared to spend some thousands on the car, you'll be able to bring it back to spec and thoroughly enjoy owning it.

Be sure to follow the NICO Q45 Forum for awhile, and whenever you have time, search through our archive of old threads.

Besides the guides and under-plenum hoses, you'll want to replace as much suspension rubber as you can. You should check ALL the under-hood connectors and clean and treat them with conductive and/or anti-corrosion stuff. Thoroughly clean the entire intake path - not a bad idea to do the injectors and rails, too. Etc. Bugs will appear and be worked out.

The '90 is a great car, and you're lucky to have a low-mileage one. Congrats!

I'm with you 100% Johnny. So what if it needs work...every Q on here does. That's a one in a lifetime find, and the interior alone is worth it! There are a lot of Chicken Little's on here...but she'll need some TLC for sure.

I had one of these BRAND SPANKING NEW.........it got totaled after three months.........I loved that car then.........not to many on this forum can say they had a brand new one? My friend bought a Lexus then and I bought the Q....he he...I ate his lunch on the way to work every day..I plan on this car being mint mint mint..........foloow along with me and I will keep you posted. I I purchased a used trans from the Forum........will go thru that and update it with new clutch's and a shift kit and then add that trans cooler...looking for that elusive 93 TCU nextSince I am a gear head I might go thru and engine and take the variable timming out of it and stroke it alittle and put a stand alone EFI on the engine and Engine dyno it and really make some power...........These engines will make 500 HP ...........>> No problem with no add ons...

Read in the VH/VK Forum paying particular attention to John Dixon's 5L build.

These are not truck engines like domestic pushrod OHV V8. One must be more sophisticated in one's approach not to negate the engine's overall flexibility.
