Alrighty…

This is my review of the SPL coilovers after having them for about a month...

First reaction of getting them was major bling bling. Looked very sturdy and well built. IMHO, you can not get better coils for the price these are going for.

Currently I am running these on the 2nd notch from the softest for daily drive and the ride is very comfortable.

I mean as far as coilovers go…. These are stiffer than my stock shocks and Eibach springs by like 1000 times. I turned up the stiffness on the shocks to about 3 notches from the hardest setting and under daily roads, it was uber stiff…. I’m sure I would have gotten used to it BUT, I know I don’t want to run like that every day.

What I do know from that experience is that these will be great on the track.. Unfortunately I have not gotten a chance to drift on these but I will pretty soon enough and I will do another review of these then.

My over all opinion on these is that they are very very very built in quality and looks. They are a great set of coilovers if anyone is in the market to get some. The level of dampening is great for daily drivers whoa re worried about the stiffness. You can adjust to your liking.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding these what so ever

OH, and I love the fact that I don’t have to pop my hood to adjust the dampening for the front!!!! So I can just run out and change the setting if I don’t like… which I did to dial in the level of comfort for my daily drive!!!!!!!

no thank you...

on that note... today when I was coming to work, I saw this white zenki making a left turn at a light I was stopped at..

he looked at me, game me a thumbs up and when it was his light to make a left...

me proceded to initiate the turn with a drift... he had a passenger but I was looking at him trying to show off to me while him spinning out..

I was like.. yeay, great job there buddy... your an A$$ clown trying to show off on public roads... He got very very lucky since there was no one on the other side of the road or else he would have been very sad.. lol...

It keeps the drift forum full of "I wrecked my car while drifting" threads though...

In my Ivory Pearl Q45 I once in Bowling Green while following a bunch of guys liberally applied the gas pedal in a left turn ( broad daylight full intersection) and assumed a 45 degree angle..

I don't think some of the larger sedans are that far off.

I think all states in the U.S. have a fare share pretty terrible roads that eats wheels, and kills shocks. Roads in So-Cal are crazy bad in places.

how low can these coilovers go? I'm currently shopping for some coilovers but I keep hearing from people that their coilvoers don't go low enough. For me it's not low enough unless your frame or exhaust is dragging on the ground.

....wow, I really don't know what to say to this. I have a nice bolt cutter you could use to cut your springs...if you just wanna slam your car why get nice coilovers? You won't have any travel and your alignmnet will be screwed so there will be little if any handling upgrade. Real coilovers are for people who want proper damping and travel for their car to improve handling by reducing roll, etc. Sounds like you jusst want your car to look...er...low. Coils are a waste of $$ for you.

Here we go. Geez why can't someone ask a simple question and get a simple answer? If I had a dollar for every one of you critics telling me what I should do to my car I would have 79 dollars. Please I just want to know how low these things go not a crit on my preference. Not a cut but you "experts" on handling, do to your car what you want. If I want to spend 3 grand on on Zeals just for the sake of ride height please let me.

thanks

How can we leave that alone? Unless you're making a show car, it is idiotic to slam your car that much. Do you literally want it to scrape when you go over bumps and up driveways and stuff? There's no benefit to a setup liek that.

You're into drifting though...that's not the same as general grip driving. Most people building up cars to be fast street cars or even for occasional track days don't run super stretched tires on wide wheels or radical camber or super low ride height. Overall in the world of performance cars/driving, drifting and drift setups are an anomaly.

Really, I think tire size and diff strength are the two main differences. It's no fun to drift a car that can't at least grip a littel bit in the rear. You don't accelerate and you have less control. A drift set up can be a comprimised grip setup, especially if you like doing both. Both need similar alignment settings, both benefit from a rigid chasis, both setups can utilize a wide track, etc. If I had my car set up more for grip, I would get a 1.5 way diff, set around 60% locking, and I would run something wider than 235 width tires.
