Spiral Cable....

I was weondering (93 infiniti J30T) what exactly is a spiral cable and what does it do. I took my car to the infiniti dealer and he said he thinks that it needs to be replaced and the cost is $1000.00 for the part alone. Can i get this part used? THANX

The spiral cable is the one that feeds anything in the steering wheel that moves with the wheel (like the air bag, horn, CC Controls, etc). What are your symptoms?

i dont have any symptoms..i just happened to take the car to get a diagnostic test and they said that there was somethign wrong with it. Can they be purchased used..?

Well that's certainly strange. If the cable was malfunctioning, then soemthing would be amiss.
