As it stands now, I currently have the base audio in my Rogue, which unfortunately means no steering wheel audio controls. I truly miss them after having them in my last two cars. So, I'm looking to go all frankenstein and install them myself. The only problem I can potentially see is if the base audio doesn't come with a spiral cable. I was trying to find out by reading up on the cruise control, only to find out that Nissan has been kind enough to leave that section out of the E.S.M. :tisk: . Now that that's done, does anyone know if the cruise control is connected through a spiral cable, and if so is it the same as what would be found on better trimmed models. Any information would be greatly appreciated,& I thank those who contribute in advance.

Thanks
Tony aka "Frankenstein"

The reason you cannot find the 'cruise control' device is it's integrated with the engine control. The separate 'Cruise Control' section of the manual does not exist.

You can find the diagrams and explanation of Cruise Control in the EC section of the FSM starting on pg EC-531.

BTW, in previous threads I stated you had to buy a complete drivers airbag assembly to get the switches. In fact this is not correct. You can buy just the switches themselves.

Hi there, my SL Rogue with base radio definately has a spiral cable/clock spring, the dealer has replaced it 3 times at a cost of around $400 each.

The wiring is definately different for base stereo vs. bose system with steering wheel controls, but I don't know if the spiral cable/clock spring would necessarily be a different part number. I would recommend calling your Nissan parts guy, have him look up the part for both situations and tell you if the part number is different. Unfortunatley this will likely be a very expensive endeavor to add these functions.....good luck and let us know what you find out.

Another thing.... the FSM is quite confusing:

The 'base' audio system in the 2008 FSM shows steering wheel audio controls. These were not in fact available on any 'base' audio system.

The steering wheel audio controls shown in the diagrams are actually part of a mid-level audio package only available in Canada. It consisted of an MP3 capable 6CD changer headunit, 6 speakers (additional tweeters in the dash), and steering wheel controls.

I have my doubts that the base headunit will accept steering wheel controls... even if you had the correct harness and switches in place. Your only hope here is to get ahold of one of those mid-level audio headunits from a Canadian spec Rogue... not very easy or cheap.
