ok so i changed my wheel bearing in the rear and i heard yesterday not to tighten the spindle nut down all the way but a guy at the shop told me to just put the impact wrench on it and then itll be fine. ive been noticing alot of noise in my rear end like grinding of a bearing. which makes me really mad cuz i was dumb and listen to retards if i ruined this bearing. on top of that i think my rear diff took a crap cuz i cant even turn and gas it and have the wheels spin it feel like no accel during a stop and right turn.

You mean the axle nut? Yeah, I usually just gun it on. Then replace the cover and the cotter pin in place. It does have a torque value to which it is set at though.

There is a spec in the 300zx service manual, but the norm is to gun the nut down till it stops then you can insert the cotter pin thru the little castle nut cover.

If you're really that concerned, look up the torque spec in the FSM.

You replaced the bearing yourself? Did you have somone press it on for you? What brand of parts did you use?

There are like 100 things that could have gone wrong during this repair if you are not qualified.

Tighten the mess out of it. FSM recommends 150-200 ft/lb of torque which is tighter than wheel lugnuts on full size pickups.

Most of the time when a bearing is bad you can hear which side it is...when you drive it if you shift the weight of the car from side to side and the noise gets louder and quieter with the weight then it's probably a bearing problem again. Lift the back up and check for play in the wheels, spin the wheels around and make sure it's smooth, no grinds.

That's my normal routine for checking wheel bearings.

another way to do it is take off the wheel, caliper and rotor. Then take the ABS sensor out of the hub and listen in that hole while you turn the wheel. If you hear anything like grinding or clicking its your bearing.
