I was wondering if anyone who has a black coupe has gotten those spider web scratches that you notice in the sun. They are pretty bad on my car and i seroiusly cant stop thinking about it! Does anyone know if there is a way to get those off?

If its like swirls or tiny scratches on the clear coat then you can buy a product that Meguires makes, i forget what its called but it takes swirls out of the clear coat and works great on black cars.

Thanks, I think what I am going to do is life with the scratches right now until the car is a little older then Ill use an abrasive on it.

I've had black cars in the past and none of them were even close to my coupe when it comes to swirl marks. The clear coat on the coupe must be super soft or something, I don't know how else to explain it...

Its all part of having a black car. Swirl marks are pretty much inevitable. Just keep it in check by waxing your car, or else it will be obvious even in the dark.

Black has always looked better in the shade anyways

I great product for "the swirlys" is Turtle Wax Ice Liquid Clay Bar, it really works well, made my Dads old Impala look brand new, so I have some now for my black beauty although its too damn cold to even wash her.

This is pretty evident in all Nissan paint finishes unfortunately.

1) Wax does not remove swirl marks

2) Clay bars do not remove swir marks

3) Polishes and/or wet sanding remove swirl marks.

4) Nissan is known for having a softer clear coat compared to those of Audi/VW. The swirl marks are just more apparent on dark colored cars.

5) Nice buff job CodeRed! The orange peel is your friend unless you don't mind wiping off every smudge on the car, because they will stick out like sore thumbs.

I was implying that wax can make it less apparent.

This paint is so damn frustrating! I just washed my car today, and I am extremely careful, I hose down the car first, make sure my that my sponges are clean and the water is clean and the soap bucket water is clean. I make sure that the area I am cleaning at the time is nice and wet also. It literally takes me about an hour to wash my car with the crazyness I take to do it. So I go to my car after work(at 11 at night) and i can see the damn swirl marks. I swear its about 3x worse then it was before I washed it. This paint is so ridiculously weak. I wonder if removing the swirl marks by a professional(I would love to do it myself, but I really dont have the proper tools to do it) and then getting a new clear coat on it would stop this ridiculousness. Does anyone know if a clear coat can only be applied after a new paint coat is put on, or if it can be put on at anytime.

I had an old corsica that I got repainted at MaCoo a few years ago and never got swirl marks on that

Black is the most frustrating color-looks great when clean but toughest to keep clean....

And yes-the spiderweb scratches that every car gets can be seen a day after you drive off the lot.My wife said I was obssesed staring at my paint in the garage under the lights looking for scratches (she was right.)

after 8 months, I have learned to live with it since there is nothing you can do. The most frustrating thing is here in Atlanta, you can't even wash your car by hand because we have a total water ban!

As I watch my car go into that car wash knowing its coming out with the swirl marks and then some guy takes a dirty rag to dry it off...then I tip him anyway...

I do go in twice a year to have it detailed and have a high speed polish-that removes much of the problem but also runs $125 or so....

my advice-dont go nuts about it-black is going to show this stuff

Just as an update for any who care, I did a clay bar treatment, mothers 3 step wax(cleaner, sealer/glaze, wax) and you can barely notice the swirl marks anymore. From ehre on out I am going to do a clay treatment before I wax, because that seems to get any of the gunk out that can possibly latch onto the bonnets and stuff when I wax it. I think at some point I am going to have a professional polish it in the summer.

And before it gets asked....Follow these steps:

1 Wash and dry your vehicle.

2 Spray a small area with clay lubricant(quick detailer spray), no bigger than 2 square feet.

3 Gently rub the clay bar back and forth across the wet area. It will grab at first. This means that it is pulling contaminants out of the paint. When it glides freely, the paint is clean. 4. Wipe the area with a microfiber towel and use the clay lubricant to remove any clay residue. Rub your fingers across the paint now; it should be as smooth as glass. If it’s not, repeat the process. Reshape the clay bar as needed to expose a clean surface. Keep the clay well-lubricated. 5 Continue these steps until you’ve clayed the entire vehicle. Clay does a marvelous job on glass and chrome, too. 6 Store the clay bar in its original case if possible, or in an airtight plastic bag. Spray it with lubricant to keep it moist. Do not allow the clay to freeze and do not store it in temperatures above 200° F. 7 Always follow claying with a wax or sealant. Clay will removing existing wax and may leave tiny holes where contaminants have been removed. They must be sealed in order to protect the paint from corrosion.
