Yesterday was half-off day at the local junkyard. I was fortunate enough to find a 240 hatch in decent shape with a similar color scheme to mine. I ended up walking out with 2 door panels (along with window/lock assembly), the carpeting and tons of clips, screws etc. all for about $30 and change. Hell of a deal, wouldn't you say? So I spent most of today installing the carpet (along with a nice layer of sound deadener underneath it)and let me tell you, it's a royal pain in the @ss! I figured I'd post some tips and hints for those contemplating it so here we go; First of all, tho' I've heard they're the same, I'm 90% sure that the hatch and vert take slightly different sized carpet. The hatches seems to be larger with all the excess being from the rear of the console back. It was very difficult getting the back seat floors to sit nicely. In fact I'm still not happy with it. Also there are some extra holes near the bottom rear of each door that need to be patched, zip tied, or something 'cause they're rather large. Instead of removing the dash and then trying to manuever the rather stiff (even after sitting in the sun for hours) carpet into place, I found a much easier (kind of half-@ssed method) for doing it. I cut almost the entire carpet in half. All except the area that goes over the hump in back and then under the rear seats. I then used a small knife to poke matching holes on both sides along the cut and threaded large zip ties through one side. After laying it in place I then threaded the zip ties thru the other side and tightened them. Since they all end up being under the console it worked out rather well. Now instead of a stained light gray carpet in my black interior, I have matching black. Yay. It looks better and it's a much more durable fabric than the one it replaced. I'm glad I went for it.

Now as to the door panels...I'm getting ready to do the seat belt pillar removal mod very soon. First I have to mod the panels themselves. I'm going to make some fiberglass speaker pods, paint them red to match my car, and attach them to the panels to hold my 6.5" CDT components and second, I've got to switch out my leather insert for the old, crappy fabric ones currently in the panels. Anyone done this before? Any tips if so? If not I guess I'll just wing it and let you know how it went when I'm done. Oh well, guess that's it for now. I love my vert. I've only had it a few months but as sick as it may sound, I've already bonded with it far more than with any of the dozen or so cars I've owned previously lol. -Glyph

Here's a full-on new carpet install on NPM's Project 240sx convertible: http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/august06/240/

Just in case anybody finds this while searching.

I have to do this eventually.

Can you see any overlap or your zip ties?

Negative. The zip ties are all hidden by the center console. All in all it was quite a bit more of a pain than I anticipated, but nevertheless well worth it.

Yea, the carpet is slightly different. I did mine the other week, looks totally half-***, but o well, better than the nastiness that was there before.

The difference is that the vert has a lot of extra bracing, which positions the carpet differently. So, some trimming/etc has to be done.

Somebody on this forum...somewhere on nico...spraypainted their carpet and claimed the results looked good. So, I tried it - black, satin, for plastics. Damn....not bad actually...just an alternative suggestion to replacing carpet.

I spent a whole day steam cleaning my carpet a couple of years ago, and now I have a carpet in mint condition. It looks like brand new. I borrowed a steam cleaner from a friend of mine and bought a cuple of bottles of cleaning solution. I don't know how many times I did it, but I did it until the cleaner sucks in clean water from the carpet. Basically, it shoots out hot water mixed with cleaning solution and sucks that right back in. Actually it was a 2-day job including all the seats.

Wow. Brought this post back from the dead lol. Yeah, when I first got the car I steam cleaned the carpet. It did a great job but it was still light gray so I wanted to change it out none-the-less. I'm much happier with the new one. Here's a long overdue pic...

Protus, Yes indeed, those are s13 chromies on my car and they'll probably be up for sale soon. I plan on getting some new 17" wheels for X-mas and if I do, I'll be getting rid of them.
