When people are buying cars, they look for the cheapest car, they dont give you anything extra if tires, for example, are new or if you have really maintained the car and all repairs are done to date. For example, my car could have a broken muffler, dead battery, old tires, leaking water pump and brake master cylinder, brakes on their last legs, etc., but people are going to go more by the condition of exterior and engine and not consider it would cost a ton to fix up.
excellent points, and i counter with:
personal preference. me, i liked my silvia... so much in fact, that i figured out the american equivelant (240sx) and started on how to make it legal in the states without importing the whole car (just most of it)
for a car that i *will never be selling* my toy rebuild project is a hobby... as will racing be a hobby again once i get my back surgery, move into the new house and find an organization to join (wether it be SCCA or whatever else) to build a track car for.
so much, in fact, that i have been pricing options for the work truck that i will buy thats sole purpose will be to support my hobby.
a 95+ turbo diesel extended cab, standard transmission (maybe a 5+2), dually rear with a utility body, with 2000 lb liftmoore crane, and 30 gal air compressor with a 5th wheel under a hidden panel in the bed (not really picky on dodge vs ford vs gm....
with this truck, i should be able to pull 15000 lbs worth of trailer (toy box), gooseneck or not, lift an engine, transmission, or entire front clip into the bed (probably at an angle) without needing a forklift or anything at any pointand it will be the ultimate track support vehicle
i can get it all for under $15k.... maybe under 10k if i can find a deal or slide on some options..... like get an automatic, or standard cab or something and ive found a few sources for this truck near teh area i will be moving to
and i wont be buying this truck for another year or so
its a hobby.... which extra time and money gets thrown at... and when you start talking things like custom cam grinds, custom intake plenums, tomei forged pistons, to name a couple and machine work, the total spent starts jumping up in $500 and $1000 increments (especially things with 'custom' in teh name)
looking back, yeah theres some purchases maybe i shouldnt have made, or waited on.... and some mods that i should have waited to do ... but overall im satisfied
