None of this electric guitar and constantly needing a better one and a bigger amp and new strings and pissing off neighbors.
On a side note, can he play?
Reminds me of the parent and kid that came into the music store where my wife/son/daughter work and wanted to get the kid a guitar now that he had taken piano lessons for 2 years.....that was their deal.
Also, reminds me of myself when my daughter wanted to play electric guitar! I had read up on the subject and had determined that it was better to start on acoustic. We took her to a local music store and plopped an acoustic guitar in her lap. She just looked up sadly and said she would learn to play on it if that was how she could get to play an electric...... Next, I put a cherry red strat (Ibanez) in her lap. She beamed. We left with an Ibanez jump starter pack.
A valuable lesson was learned by dad that day. Get them what they want to play and they are more likely to stick with it.
However, now she mainly plays her acoustic.
And, yes Nate, he does know how to play.He plays guitar in the jazz band at HS, has a death metal band that has two scheduled shows coming up, has a smooth jazz band, and currently takes classical lessons at the music store that he works at.
On some weekend nights, he will take my acoustic up to a local shopping center/village and plays. Folks will drop money in his guitar case.
My only advice would be to learn an instrument while your child is learning. Help coach their team.Do MA with them.I did all of these things with my kids....however, when my daughter took dance lessons I didn't. 215 pound man in a tutu is just not right...
