I have a 89 240sx and the speedometer is not moving. The mechanic told me it could be the speedmeter, but i want a second opinion. Does anyone else know what it could be?

it could be many things... It could be your speedometer or your VSS(vehicle speed sensor) or electrical problems such as short somewhere or loose harness.

I see that generally HUD (I think thats what 89 240s have) systems go bad. So most likely its your hud if not its your VSS.The gears in your VSS might be worn out or the sensor it self might be bad. Check the FSM for diagnosing procedures.

Probably the speed sensor on the transmission. You can check it by removing it from the transmission, turning the pinion quickly and measuring the voltage across point A and B with a voltmeter. It's approximately 0.5v (A.C.)
