So the CA is fixed and running strong thanks to Bolt Depot.com :D

But I have a minor problem. The speedometer doesn't work. And think I just found out the problem. The CA18 and it's harness are from an automatic, and is now in my manual 89 240.

I plugged in the 2 prong connector on the lower harness to the speed sensor plug. The 2 wires are yellow with green and yellow with black stripes. Which are the right colors as far as I know because that's what the colors were when I did the dash harness plug. So I was looking around, and I found a 4 prong connector with bright orange in the middle of the connector on the lower harness. Low and behold the yellow with green and yellow with black wires went to this connector. But there's no place for me to plug it. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I just run some wire right to the dash harness from the speed sensor?

I'll take some pictures when I get a chance, because There are a few 2 pronged connectors from the main harness with no homes too.

If I remember correctly you can take the 2 wires from the speedo sensor on the transmission and extend it all the way to the cluster. I believe the color of the wires are Yellow/Greem and Yellow/Blue check the FSM for accuracy.

its actually quite simple....it should still plug in somewhere near the starter to your chassis harness...then that harness plugs into all the plugs by the fuse box. There should be a 6 prong thats left unplugged, and a 4 prong on the car thats left unplugged (or vice versa, i cant remember) match the colors and youre in business

by chance does your ignition stay on after the key is off sometimes?

thats most likely why

one of those wires has something to do with that. My friend had the same problem and he got so sick of it he was ready to light the car on fire. I found a plug that wasnt plugged in, looked at the colors, then looked at the one by the fuse box, 4 of the 6 wires were the same, so as a shot in the dark i matched the colors and wired it. voila, working speedo and no more ignition randomly staying on.

Very interesting, I'll have to take a look at the car.

And about the ignition being on, The car won't stay running, but onces in a while... like 1 out of 8 times i'd say, 1 warning light would stay lit on the gauge cluster

What plug are we talking about that the speedometer wires are supposed to plug into? Is it the brown plug? I have two brown plugs one of them is the one that has the fuel pump wire in it and the other brown plug has nothing going to it. I have two other plugs grouped with that empty brown plug that are empty as well. I will take pictures when I get back down to my car. Hopefully today... I never plugged in any of the wires from my transmission before and I want to get them connected.

Stand by for pictures.

your speed sensor should plug into another plug on your lower harness afaik.

i just checked mine for you, it does plug in to your lower harness, the harness that plugs into your transmission, starter, alternator. that should have the plug for the speed sensor on it..

My CA trans harness must be missing the plug then. I just took my KA trans harness and cut the connector that goes into the plug that snaps to the fuse/relay box. Cut the 2 speedo wires from the 4 prong plug and spliced them. Speed works now! :D

I don't know if you have everything sorted yet but maybe the last post in this thread will help you out.
