I have a 2006 Altima SL and I have a problem with the speedometer quit working and the ABS light is on in the dash. I'm not even sure if the speed sensor is on the transmission or on one of the wheels. I've checked all fuses and I'm fairly sure the speedometer head is not the problem.
Can anybody give me some advice as to what to look for and check. I am a diesel mechanic but that is altogether different than these newer cars. Thank you.

Believe it or not, I'd suspect a failing battery.

Also, ABS code can be read with a scanner - You can have an auto parts store or dealer scan it, or you can DIY with a scan tool (under $20 on Amazon) and the Torque App on a smartphone.

Occasionally, if the wheel speed sensor(s) have gotten dirty, they will throw a code - if you pull the wheels you can clean them out with brake cleaner (as long as the wiring to the sensors are not damaged). The front wheel sensors consist of a gear-shaped sensor rotor and a sensor element and are installed on the front of the wheel knuckles.

Let us know what you learn!
