well, i got my gauge lights to work (TCU was dead) but now i'm having a problem with the speedometer. It sometimes keeps accurate speed, other times it just bounces all over the place, or doesn't move at all. RPMs have stayed correct, and no negative engine performance....just the speedometer isn't working right

sounds like a vehicle speed sensor, but i'm not sure and i don't really want to take a $65 gamble on a special order part from work....anyone got any ideas on what it could be, and if there's any way to test them, and also where it's located at?

'90 F/B btw

Run your ECU code to see if it shows speed sensor code (0104 on S14).

My speedometer is freaky sometimes... sometimes it jumps from 0 to current speed and sometimes it stays at zero and my odometer doesnt work half of the time.

My ECU always throws speed sensor error. That code works on two trip logic so even if MIL light isnt on your ECU might have it stored.

The easiest method would be to go to Autozone who will do it for you for free with their diag tool which takes litereally less than a min to do...

OR...

the ECU is located on the passenger side kick panel. Remove the kick panel and remove the 2 screws/1 nut thats holding the ECU. Now flip the ECU so that the back (the part that was facing the firewall) is facing you now. There should be a screw looking thing that you need to turn with a flat head driver. Leave your key in "On" and turn the screw clockwise and leave it for 2 sec then return it back to its original position. Look at your check engine light and count how many time its flashing. Longer flashes are the first number and the faster flashes are the second num. After reaading the code turn the screw clockwise and leave it for 2 seconds again then return it back to normal position. Put your ECU back in.

your done.

Ive done this so many times (my engine light seems to like to come on often) that it takes me bout 5 mins for the whole process to take...

no, Autozone can't do it, and i know this because i work for them....we sell the code reader for it, but we don't have a store use one, and aren't trained to use it....we can only do OBDII codes, old GM codekey codes, & the old Ford ones that are under the hood
