hey i got a 1990 240sx hatchback and i just got it not to long ago and i noticed that the speedometer is out of whack big time. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, when it reads 45 it JUMPS to 55 and when ur at 55 it just kinda sits there. I drove by one of those police speedometer mechine things and my speedometer read 25 and the cop speedometer read 33, so i was just wondering what u guys think about this i am new to the scene and just wondering cause i dont want a ticket ;)

Thanks alot guys i hope u can help me out

Quinn

i have the exact same problem, i was told that there is a speed sensor on the transmission. i just use my RPM the best i can, i memorized the speeds and gears when the speedo was working.

take out the gauge cluster and check all the solder joints on the back of it. I hear they are prone to loosening up.

yeah it is something you probably want to take to a mechanic, because there is calibration involved (i think) do a search on it and see if you come up with better info. take it from me, i have paid $1000's and spent a time in jail for speeding. its not worth it especially when you have to pay for it.
