Speedometer problems!?!

Okay so my speedometer is acting up. It has been for a while , I just haven't really cared.

When I first start up the car it will always work fine, but then after a while (when it gets warmed up I THINK - not positive, thinking it happens once my car warms up), anyways.. after a while of driving, it will start to jump around, and then just quit reading my speed altogether.

I know it could be the VSS, but I am looking for any other ideas on what it could be(something loose, etc.)

any ideas on what it is and how to fix it?

As you drive, you slow down and speed up and then stop. Thatw why the needle jumps around and then quits reading your speed all together.

I wish i could help you man, my cars doing the same thing. I think I might have some wires loose or something. Pretty sure I do. Just havent taken the time to check it out yet... If i find out whats up, i'll let you know

okay, theres two things it may be... the speedometer is diconnected, yes they can disconnect, but before it got disconnected it was loose( the reason for it juming around)

and you could check the VSS... but for both of these, youll have to take it to the shop

I thought s13's didnt have a speedometer cable.

well, if they dont... you have an even more costly problem on your hands!

Turns out mine was disconnectedmine did the same thing yours did

so how do you reconnect it?

Yeah, I thought it was controlled by pulses or whatever. If in fact there is a cable, where is it and how to i get to it to plug it in.

I have the same issue but my thosnt die it just crazy all over the place I spank the dash and it goes down then a few secound later it back going crazy ...so the other day I got my conzult software running and. It give a code 12 speed sensor circuit error so I'm going to a get a new speed sensor and see if that the issue,
