My speedometer worked properly when I first bought the car and now it only works sometimes. I have a TOMTOM so i can check my speed vs. the speedo when it's working. About 5% of the time it will be working and be accurate. Another 25-30% of the time it will be moving up and down but be about 10 mph slower than my actual speed. And the rest of the time it will either be sitting at zero, making an odd clicking noise that becomes more frequent as my speed increases, or it will be maxed out making the same clicking noises. The odometer works properly and accurately about 97% of the time, even if the speedo isn't. But it also has it's times where the odometer won't turn, not even the trip one. My other guages work properly and my rpms are always accurate. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this before? I don't want to go out buying new parts if it's fixable.

yeah i have the same issue....usually works sometimes, then other times I'll be doing 130 mph while i'm sitting at a red light...or i'll be going about 60 mph yet it shows '0' mph....i changed out the speed sensor and still no luck so i'm in the same boat as you are my friend.

Well that helps me out. Now I know buying a new speed sensor won't help me. I think I'm gonna just pull the gauge cluster out and take it apart to see if i can see a problem. I'll let you know if I have any luck with it.

yeah i've tried removing the whole cluster out, putting it back together....did a little research and found some people on here that had changed the sensor and problem solved. Unfortunately for me it didn't solve anything....It was only $65 for the sensor so I wasn't all that pissed...I'm gonna dig into again this weekend to see if I can figure it out.

you guys having issues still can also just buy a whole new cluster - it could be the speedo part in the cluster itself, one of my many clusters was shady like that.

Yep. Changed my cluster and installed my old odometer and it's worked fine since. You can get one from the junkyard.
