I have a 1990 240sx that is completely stock. I have searched but havent found anything that relates to my problem. My problem is that when I'm completely stopped my speedometer reads like 8 mph and as soon as i let off the clutch and start moving it jumps to over 45, it never goes below 45 unless im stopped and stays at 45 until im completely stopped. Could this be the sensor? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

I have the same problem, check the sensor in the transmission, its on the passenger side towards the rear. courtesy parts lists it at like 130$ i think.

I will mess with it tomorrow. I thought it was the sensor but wanted to make sure. and i have another problem, my reverse lights dont work. the bulbs are not blown, and all the plugs on the trans are plugged in except one by the bellhousing that is broken. could that one be the reverse sensor? Thanks to all that have replied. it is greatly appreciated.
