Speedometer not working and battery drain

My speedometer stopped working. By that I mean after like 40mph it kicks back in then drops to zero and stays there. After a while it worked again but now it went all the way pass 160 and now lives there. Sometimes it will read backwards. Now I have a unexplainable battery drain. Got new batt., will get alt. checked but I also noticed that the brake light indicator has some voltage going to it because it lights up dimmly but works fine if I apply the Ebrake. so now my car does run for more than 15mins w/o a low batt. charge showing up then all shuts down...please help anyone.

I would check the alternator and the battery.

Do a load test on the battery and a ripple test on the alternator.

Well after testing the altenator for the third time(off the car this time ) it came out bad. The speed sensor seems to be the speedometer issue...keeping my fingers cross on the battery drain. 225,000 miles and still going.
