I bought this 1982 280 turbo zx with a 5 speed transmission around Chistmas. The speedometer says I'm going around 62mph when I'm really going over 80mph. I called a highly recommended local speedometer and tach shop. They told me that they could only test the speedometer but there is no way that they could repair it's inaccuracies with the simple change of a speedo gear such as you would an older american car. Is this true? And if so how do you set your speedometer to read the correct speed on '82 zx. I can be e-mailed at [email protected] with any answers or suggestion that will resolve this problem. Thank You..

Nissan Motorsports offers speedometer pinions to correct mph. They are available in 16t to 23t. Increasing the tooth count on the pinion will decrease the mph readout. These are for 5-speed only and for the F4W71A, FS5C71A/B, and the F5C71B trannys. You might also need a sleeve depending on the pinion selected. Go to a Nissan dealer and ask to see a Motorsports catolog. Thanks
