speedometer goes on & off

sup. my speedometer works sometimes, and sometimes not. it bouces from zero to the speed im going sometimes also. i think it might be the speed sensor, but have no idea of how to check it. i also dont know how much they are to buy new. i started to pull it out, but it leaked fluid. i then had to bleed my clutch. that was a pain in the a**. when attepting to turn bleeder screw on the slave cyl, it broke off, so i had to replace it. i now hate the smell of dot3. anyways, if you have any info on maybe correcting my problem, please sahre the knowlege.
