Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure my speedometer shouldn't drop to 0 when I'm on the highway... LOL. It'll come back on though shortly after or if I'm doing city driving sometimes when I shift gears it'll jump back up! Could it just be corossion on the cables or a sign that I need an entirely new cluster?

Plus are there any good DIY write ups on how to take off my cluster and check it out? I haven't been able to find any so far.

I would test your connection path before doing the cluster, although I think cluster removal is supposed to be relatively easy. The path is Speed Sensor on transmission>Alternator Wiring Harness to Connector near passenger headlight>junction inside passenger kickplate area>speedometer>ECU.

I would:
1) Look up diagrams in FSM to know what you are looking for. I believe you'll need the last section that has basically all wiring diagrams
2) Check for corrosion at connector at transmission
3) Check connection/corrosion at connector by the passenger side headlight
4) Check connection/corrosion at passenger side kick panel
5) Check connection/corrosion at speedometer.
