about 6 months ago, my transmission blew out. when i had it taken out, the harness for the speed sensor, more specifically the wires were ripped apart. when my new transmission was put in, the mechanic reconnected the wires with wire butts and ever since there, its worked perfectly.

3 weeks ago i had a new clutch put in and again, when the transmission was taken out, the wire job that the previous mechanic did was ripped appart. i ended up ordering a new speed sensor and harness. after everything was hooked up, the spedometer does not work. the fuse is fine, all the other guages work except for the spedometer. the gauge cluster works fine, its sending and recieveing the proper signals.

basically what happened is that everything was working fine, then i got a new clutch put in and once everything was put back together, the spedo doesnt work...which to me and my mechanic makes no sense. what could be wrong?

did you compare the old harness with the new one? how about the sensors? i know that the old ones should look broke, but aside from that. are they different?

the new parts look the same as the old ones, aside from the old harness being connected using wire butts. i just cleared the 0104 speed sensor code fomr the ECU, and the code has not come back, but the speed sensor still doesnt work. at this point i am ready to take it to Nissan, i know that will probobly be the most expensive solution, but i dont know what else to do.

ok, speed signal goes from sensor to speedo to ecm. what you want to do is pull the sensor out and test it for a/c voltage while spinning it really fast with a drill or something. then find the same wires in the back of the speedo head and test it there. if that is all good and the ecm is not setting a code, you need a speedo head.

i tested the voltage on the speed sensor and that is working, and the speedo head has voltage too, but now the ecu is throwing the code again.

that narrows it down to the ecm or the circuit between speedo head and ecm.
