I have only had my Q for a few days and bought it, and I knew the speedometer did not work, however I have put over 300 miles on the Q and speedometer has worked once a while for about 5 to 6 miles and stops. The trip speedometers are working fine. Does anyone think as I am that the speedometer [speed sensor] plastic reduction gear needs to be replaced? :thinker

It's interesting the trip odo works but the other's don't. I've always thought these were all connected to the same sensor. Maybe the in dash gauge is actually bad.

Pretty common [mine failed at 71k in 1995 and the replacement has been fine for 8 years and 172k] for the 90-92 speedometer meter assembly to fail or stick at 60 or work and not work and work again it is just a simple zero to 5 volt dc meter.

My speedometer still works but it squeaks when it's cold (goes away after a few minutes). Common failure item at high mileage -- or degraded performance in my case.

I have had odo squeaked in the past, however these used a cable,I'm not sure that's what you have, anyway the fix was to lub the cable. My question was, do I need to replace the gear in the transmission?
