This is 2002 Infiniti I35. There is no change in the car whatsoever, it runs and drives normally. And it only occurs at certain times:

When I leave for work at 4:15am it works fine, like nothing is wrong. My commute is 45 mins, after about 30 mins or so, the lights come on and the speedo stops working. After work at 2:30, I get in the car and it works normally again, then after only about 10 mins, it stops working for the entire way home.

I am assuming it is something to do with the heat. I called an Infiniti service dept. at the dealership and he said it could be the cluster. But I took it to Autozone and hooked it up to the scanner, and got codes for the TCS module, and the Speed Sensor.

What do you think?

Thanks for any information that anyone can provide.

Now I was driving and the check engine light came on in addition to the above issues. Probably related to the same issue, but who knows, and it looks like no one on here knows what could be wrong. I may just end up taking it to the dealer and forking out the $115 per hour to have it checked out :(

First of all :welcome: to NICO! I'm sorry I didn't answer you sooner.

It doesn't sound like anything in particular to me, but I'm not an expert on the I35 by any means. Your car's factory service manual is available for viewing/download at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

I would start by tracking down the codes you're getting to see if that points somewhere.

Good luck!

Hey there, thanks for the welcome. And yeah, I read the service manual and tracked down the codes. But the only thing is that it doesnt make any sense because it works when its cool, and once it's hot (same time, every day) it stops working. It's just so odd, I wish it would tell me exactly what it was, coz then I could fix it, but that would be too easy, haha. But yeah, im going to start playing around and try to diagnose as much as I can, and if all else fails, ill just fork out the cash for the dealer to check it out.

If you think you know what component is causing the issue, you can always get a can of freeze spray and cool it down to test your temperature theory. Electronics that fail in a way that's temperature sensitive is very common.

I am having this exact same issue! and have purchased a "Speed Sensor" only to be informed by my Mechanic and a shop that I purchased the wrong Speed Sensor and that what I purchased was a CAM Sensor however, when you Google 2002 Speed Sensor for a 2002 infinti i35 and do an Ebay search this is the only sensor that shows, I did my research and it seems that a lot of i35 owners are having this issue, but I can't seem to figure out why Infiniti nor anyone else has posted more information into this. The common code that I found that everyone is seeming to have is P1574 Automatic Control Device Vehicle Speed Control and -P1800 VIAS S/ V Circuit *****(Continous)*****

This has been a living H*ll not knowing when my car will all of a sudden rev into no mans land and it's now doing it on the Highway, did anyone find out anything about resolving this issue, or could anyone direct to me where I can find the actual "Speedometer Sensor" that I can't seem to find anywhere?

i have solved this issue

you need the computer half of the abs pump.
45 used on ebay, or at a salvage yard.
you can find the abs pump in your car near the master cylinder,
removing the plastic potrion of the intake makes this easy.

its a gamble that the used part works of course, but the only alternative is a new pump for 800+
as the part that is no good is not available by itself.

you will need a star tipped driver, a 1/4" socket a small ratchet and alot of patience.

it took me (a nub home mechanic) about 2 hours to replace this.

there is a locking mechanisim on the harness connector that i broke taking off but seems to work fine all the same

id really like to express my anger at the number of posts about this specific thing that gets a "check your alternator and error codes at autozone..." replies.
that crap is NOT helpful.

Recently I solved the problem on 04 Solara. ECM receives speed signal from ABS module. If the module is dead, your speedometer will not work and transmission will not work good.
