Yes, some will leak out. For the love of god put something under to drain that in. Nothing worse than transmission oil odor.

Parking on a downhill incline(front lower than the rear) will help, but you're probably still going to lose some.

thanks djtodd

i was going to replace my speedo sensor, but wanted to have an idea what to expect before i did that.

if i add transmission oil from the shift boot, is there a level indicator to which i should fill it ?

No, no indicator, but if you're gonna put some in, go ahead and change it all while you're at it.

The best way to do it is drain it all, via the drain plug on the bottom, then after you're done with the speedo change, undo the fill plug on the side of the transmission, and put a pan/cup under it.

Start filling through the shifter and when it begins to leak out the fill plug, it's filled to the appropriate level.

Good luck and enjoy.
