I'm just about to replace my speedo head unit, and I've got a couple of questions before I start pulling the dash apart.

1. The head comes w/o an odometer - I presume the old one just plugs in. Yes?

2. Is the head a plug n' play unit, or does it have to be calibrated by a speedo shop? If the later, should this be done before or after it is put in. (If after, I presume that I should not put the dash back together.)

You should order the speedo with the correct mileage on the speedometer, since odometers fail occasionally. No need to put the old odometer in the new speedo. No calibration required.

The unit I was sent from Scottsdale came w/o an odometer - just a slot where it plugs in.

Just plugs in [to electronics] -- why so easy to jeep mileage on older Q. The odo is just a slow motor driven by the voltage from electronics..........remember the higher the speed the higher the voltage to speedo [0-5 volts] and odo.

That said wish I had known this back in 1990 each mile could have been a half a warranty mile. Actually wouldn't have helped since it took me 6 years to get to 70k and 7 years to get to the 100k extended limit!

Why I get scared of old cars with low mileage and gaps in records plus Infiniti has purged all the data prior for 7 years year old

Just wondering... how much did the unit cost? Mine works fine but squeaks in cold weather. Tolerable so far, but may replace one of these days.

I've heard $400-something before... is that about right?
