speedo quit working 93 d21

whats the reson the speedo would have quit working? and how would i fix it? the tach and everything else still works.

i have the enire interior of the truck gutted right now because im in the process of overhauling it. so now would be the best time for me to fix it. i can see that there is a wire that plugs into the back of the gauge cluster but how do i know for sure its the wire that is broke ? i would hate to buy a new wire install it and it still dosent work.

please help if you know what i need to do. i have to have my truck inspected when its all done and i dont think it will pass with a broken speedo? and the last thing i want do do is take it to a mechanic.

oh and when the speedo quit i noticed the cruise control stopped working.

my speedo cable broke about 3 inches from the trans (manual).

Yep check cable, undo from transmission and have a buddy spin cable and see if the bottom also turns, if not Bingo
