I have a 1990 240sx with a five speed. Heres my problem. When i start my car the speedo goes to 35 and the second i barely move the clutch it goes to 45 no matter how fast i go. As soon as i come to an idle it pulses down to 15.

I just had the v.s.s (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission tested and they said it was bad so i went and spent 80 dollars and got a new one and replaced it. My speedo is still acting weird. Can any one help me please.

Obvioulsy, they never tested the VSS.I would take that up with them if I were you.

Second, you have to replace the speedometer because the needle on the unit is sticking to the plastic surface the MPH's are printed on. (mine is doing it right now)

The best way to do this would be get one from a junkyard. You dont need to replace the whole cluster, but its not hard to open it up and extract the speedo by itsself. Just make sure you get one from the same yearset as your car otherwise it wont work.

I really hope that helps!

My HUD and my digital readout is out, but what I was wondering is if anyone knows if I could replace the gauge cluster with a non digital speedometer, but still keep my HUD? I'd rather the cluster be all gauges..

NO, the HUD uses circuitry that is only in the digital cluster. If I were you I would convert to a analog cluster as soon as you can. Those things break alot and cost much to fix.

Also, feel free to use the search button next time. All of this information has been discussed many times before and we try to encourage use of this function before you post. Thank you!
