What did you protect the solder joints with? I recommend heat shrink tubing as a minimum.
As for the issue, I've done an NX cluster into a 240 before and haven't seen that happen. I would do a check of the VSS to ensure it's not at fault, but for such a minor change in the signal like that, it sounds like a really isolated minor short. The VSS wires are not insulated for EM noise, so I doubt that the issue is line noise. Since you had to cut and splice quite a few lines to make it work, just make sure there isn't a short between two solder joints. Check to make sure a protrusion hasn't poked through the protection you added to make a short. One way to combat issues like this is to make your splices at different lengths so there's less likely chance of contact on the soldered joints. It also keeps the spliced harness thinner.
