After diagnosing and finding the cause of my noisy drive-shaft, I've just found out the the speedo is only going up to roughly 43 MPH...it's stopped indicating beyond that speed.

Not sure if this problem could be connected with the drive shaft inspection... but I'm not aware of knocking anything while underneath the car - but you never know!

In fact it pretty much goes to 43 MPH once the car is moving even although I would estimate to be travelling at 25~30MPH

The odometer is correctly accumulating mileage as it should, as I've checked with a known distance...

Any ideas what could be causing the speedometer issue?

That's really strange. The odometer gets its signal from the speedometer, which gets it from the VSS. I dunno if the signal gets split inside the speedo so the odometer and the speedo see identical signals that are independent of each other (ie, the speedo can read incorrectly and the odo sees the proper signal), because I thought with the internal adjustment of the speedo, that the odo would be dependent.

Either or, if your odo's reading right, try swapping in a known good speedometer and seeing if that solves the issue.

well luckily and strangely enough, the speedo appears to be working as normal once more, without having to do anything :)
