speedo problem

i have a 90 hatch and i just change the speedo because it would go up to 42 mph and stay there. now the one i just put in goes up like normal but starts out at 12mph when sitting still. so i can assume that it moves up correctly just is not calibrated. is there a way to reset the speedo to zero or would i be better off trying to find a replacement?

Sounds like the gauge is messed up. Speedo sensors don't put out any signal when parked.
