just got a the guides, pan clean, plugs, hoses, belts, and valve re-seal done for my 90Q. on the ride home i noticed that the odometer wasn't working, probably overlooked when putting everything back. the shop is pretty far, was wondering if it's a simple fix to do myself and where it's located. thanks

The speed sensor on the rear shaft of transmission sends a varying signal to an electronic module mounted on rear of speedometer where the driveshaft rpms are converted into a 0-5.0 VDC signal which feeds [splits 4 ways to] the power steering computer, the ecu, the tcu, and the voltmeter called the speedometer. another module drives [translates to] the odometer and the tripometers.

Early Q were bad about the speedometer [voltmeter failing] usually it got stuck at say 60 mph or was intemittent.

Does the odometer/tripometer still work?

dennis, i feel like an idiot!!!! not the speedo, the odometer. sorry about the screw-up. i noticed that the odometer was not rolling but the digital tripometer was functioning fine. before the work was done, it was fine, however. could something have been pulled and not put back during the guides, valves or pan-drop? like i said, was hoping it was something easy to fix so i didn't have to take the car back.

The tech probably knows exactly what the problem is...just give him a call and ask.

And the odometers also fail or stick [but very rarely] it [the motor wires] plugs into a socket on rear of speedometer.......doubt he had the dash open - where the problem is......maybe someone tampered long ago.Get a whole speedo from a junk yard and save the other parts or a whole gauge cluster.

well dennis, on the money again, i think the odometer was stuck. i took the Q out last night, after sitting all week, and jumped on the gas and heard a couple quick clicks and the odometer started to roll again. i'm sure it will go out eventually, but does this mean that the motor is going or do they just get stuck then start to work normally again? jeff

Lubrication of gears [plastic on each wheel edge] and electric motor. Noxious vapors inside car [smoke, tar, pollution, etc].
