Well I got my 3rd ticket tonight. According to the motorcycle cop I was doing 52 in a 35, well I think that big *** Ford SUV was doing "my" speed. So the nice officer says since it was in heavy traffic he will knock it down to a 42 in a 30? WTF how can he change the speed limit?? Now I have choice, tell my mom that I was skipping my class and fight it or just pay it ($62.00). I think Im just gona fess up to mom and fight that ****. How can one little car be the offender out of all those damn truck and SUVs?

It's always worth fighting it.

I rather pay $150 to a lawyer to handle a ticket, often he would be able to get rid of it completely (i speak from experience) or at least get it down to a no-pointer.

If you are getting up in the points (and it sounds like it) this is something you need to do.

Moms temporary ire isn't nearly the problem, as raised insurance due to too many points, or even eventual loss of license.

The only tickets I have EVER gotten in 350,000 miles of driving where those I didnt fight.

Good Luck,

Fred...:)

Depends on your jurisdiction, almost everywhere they are perfectly legal.

It sucks. I got my first ticket when I was riding with the flow of traffic around me and a bike cop pulls me over for doing 60 in a 35 in a construction zone and there were other cars all around me. $283 down the craper:(

You can screw the cop a little if you don't want to pay for a lawyer, and you won't have to tell your mom either.

Take pics of the speed limit. When you go to court, talk to the prosecuter (sp). Be like, I was doing 42 in a 35, thats 7 miles over the limit, plus your cop taking radar was doing so in heavy traffic, I was riding by an SUV when I passed him (radar always takes the speed of the larger object). Tell him you want it dropped to no points or you'll have no problem fighting it. He'll most likely drop it since your only seven over anyway. Plus the cop can't say anything about you having gone faster, since it says 42 on the ticket, and you'll pay less of a fine than you would to pay the lawyer.

Well at the top corner of the ticket the cop wrote 52mph down. Maybe i can just rip the corner off and say it got cought in my centre consol. ;)

I also had a witness in the car with me. That might be alittle help.

If insurance is required in your state, then your mother will find out anyway. And yes, the insurance upper will probably far outweigh the fine. Fess up and get a lawyer if you have to--if it costs you $150 like Fred says, I'd call that money VERY well spent to greatly increase your odds of skating out of this one. Luckily for Fred, I think a lot of courts are more lenient on active duty citizens. "Small" technicalities often won't get you anywhere; big ones that break a code are prayers answered. Pointing out that the officer made a small booboo on the ticket is petty and trivial. Pointing out that his radar gun hadn't been calibrated in a required time period would, on the other hand, have your ticket thrown out immediately. You have the right to lots of information that *may* get you off, and it is in your best interest to be as informed as possible. The officer often writes down notes on the back of the hard copy that gets processed. You often have the right to see the hardcopy beforehand. It's called the right to discovery. And you have the right to see the applicable records on file, as stated. A lawyer will know how to do this. Low on cash? There are many books out there for under $20 that will break it all down for you and give the absolute best shot of defending yourself. REALLY low on cash? There's also some great web sources on beating tickets. I'm not at my home computer now--I'll get some bookmarks later when I'm home. I like the tactic of stating you were next to other cars, unless it was laser and not radar. The only ticket I ever got I was able to beat because I reasoned the cop couldn't be measuring my speed because of the car positioned between him and me.

Going through my bookmarks, I realize that most of them are based on CA laws and codes. Good info still, and likely similar to your state's. You ticket will tell you what codes you're accused of violating, and I would bet a lot of money that every state has their laws online.http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/re...c.htmh ... s/tcdp.htm
