I'm screwed, got my first one today in the G37S and it is bad.I might have to giveup my G37 if this **** keeps up!

Not only did I get a ticket for speeding but another one for lane change at a high speed,I tried to tell the Cop it is a G37S,I didn't think I was going that quick for a lane change.

You need to adopt my six rules for avoiding tickets:

1. Avoid weaving in and out of traffic2. Blend in with the traffic flow even though above the speed limit3. Stay out of the fast lane unless actually passing4. Don’t tailgate5. The rearview mirror is your best friend6. At night assume every pair of headlights behind you is a cop

I used to get my share, but I haven’t had one now in 22 years (I'm touching wood as I write this).

I hope your not speeding in and out of traffic if you are it's really not worth someones life just to go fast.......find a safe(er) place to do it. Or find an empty parking lot and DRIFT its a lot funner than going 'fast'

No, I used the keyboard with the left hand’s fingers while the right held tightly on my wooden desk. After all, 22 years is a long time and I don’t want to break my record.

Sorry, I know I don't belong here, but I thought I'd poke around.

It's fairly easy to memorize what a crown vic's headlights look like. It's one of the few cars that has the ambers nested between the headlights.

If your state uses some other type of vehicle for highway patrol, then you're screwed.

Same thing for motorcycle cops. The head lights are usually a triad.

I got caught with Radar and the cop was hiding.

saying all of that,I was in the left lane in a 2 lane highway with a speed limit of 65.The guy in front of me was doing about 69 and I needed to get around him and went right back to left. You all know what happens when you punch the G37down,I didn't realize I was going that fast and the cop turned on his radar as I got back in the left lane at a high speed.

I know this because I had my radar in the car and the Cop car was not pulsing with radar until I passed the car,the cop was about 200 ft from my carwhen this happened,I could not slow down in time.

He got me for 97 but it didn't feel like it.

Usually if I see any american car....doesn't matter what it is (maybe it's because i'm a paranoid mafka) I just assume that it could be an undercover.

Wow that sucks, well how much was he hiding? Was he in plain view, cuz I heard that could be considered entrapment in certain circumstances, that fine is gonna hurt

I agree with most everything except #6 - you might as well not speed at night if that is the case. I think a better idea is to actually get to know the types of vehicles that your local enforcement uses - and be able to recognize those vehicles at night. In the Baltimore area - yes Crown Vics are used alot, they also use Dodge Chargers, Camaros, Last generation Ford Mustangs, - I'm now starting to see unmarked Magnum Wagons, Ford Expeditions, Dodge Durangos, even Dodge and Chevy Pick-up trucks.

For #2 - I call it following the rabbit - there is always someone that wants to drive above the speed limit - so I chill until the "rabbit" passes me - then I proceed to follow - with eyes ahead of me and on the rear view mirror.

Good Luck.

That was exactly my point: Do not speed at night. It’s impracticable to recognize every headlight pattern that the police may use. And as you suggest, there are too many variables, so you end up not really knowing.

Yes, in my foolish youth I’ve been caught at night, where I didn’t know those headlights coming up were the police until I noticed the addition of a bright red light!

I would add rule #7: When driving in non urban areas, assume there will be a locally stationed State Police, or local cop within 10-25 miles on each side of every village, hamlet, wide spot in the road. The guys have nothing else to do but provide the revenue stream for said village that pays their salary.

Well met with the lawyer today and I was lucky they didn't haul me into court.I'm looking at 7 points and surcharges from the insurance company and state.

Lawyer knows local Judge and Prosecutor and will try and get the points reduced.I need to pled I was on the way to Doctors appointment which I was but.

30 over the speed limit is hurting big time,I might lose my license for 30 daysso the G will be getting some rest if that happens.

this kills me,I have driven sports cars more powerful than the G in my youthand here I get caught now.

Apparently you missed the part where he stated he has a radar detector. They aren't foolproof, hence Magellan's rules. With today's "instant on" devices, the cops sit and wait for a "standout" automobile that's is going faster than the flow. If they're sitting on the back side of even a smal hill, bang, you're dead and your detector will do you no good... learned this the hard way. Not to sound preachy, but even the best radar detector can be beat, and anyone who lapses into a false sense of security because they have one, the clock is ticking on you... it's a matter of time before you're busted.

if I was doing over 100MPH I would be done,no pleading on that and yes I did have a radar detector and got hit with an instant on,State Cop was hiding and hit me just as I went into passing,I didn't have a chance to drop down, which I was going to do.

I know this qualifies as "shoulda woulda coulda, but why didnt you flash your brights at the vehicle in front of you doing 69 to have him change to the right lane so you could pass properly?".....

I've found with my G that accelerating up to and maintaining a maximum 80 mph is alot more fun and less anxiety inducing than driving faster for prolonged periods....97 on a 2 lane highway was awfully fast.......must've been an expensive ticket....

I find if I maintain 80 in a 70 mph zone I'll be left alone by the cops if I'm not driving erratically by frequently changing lanes and tailgaiting....cops hate aggressive drivers.....

here in FL, the state troopers use Vics, Mustangs, Chargers....also unmarked cars as well....IMO they are one step ahead of the folks using a Valentine One......

It's hard to train yourself to drive slowly in a car that is so smooth as speed increases, however, you're going to have to do it sooner or later. Don't lose your G over it, just blend in and get there a minute later.

If you have a driving school in your area that keeps the ticket off your driving record I strongly suggest doing it.

Georgia will be passing new legislation that every speeding ticket over 81 mph is subject to a trauma center hospital financing surcharge of what I believe will be another $1,000 extra. We need $50 million that means they have to find and ticket 50,000 drivers, that 138 sorrowful souls per day.

With 130,000 injuries and 1600+ deaths each year and 32,000 crashes with speeding it seems only fair.

Drive carefully u'hear and come back soon.

G37 Man:

You will be alright! I have been clocked going far higher! The cop let me slide.

Magellan and Cali 2 Balti G:

I agree completely with both assessments, comments, and discoveries!

First, anyone with ears, better hear properly: A radar detector is the fastest way to get a ticket. If you want to evade cops, you must think like a cop. See yourself like a Gazelle and the cop as a Cheetah. Where do you think a Cheetah is likely to hide in order to run your down? This should be your line of thinking when you decide to speed, if you should ever speed at all. Again, don't speed.

1. Never speed at all if you can. If you have to absolutely speed, for whatever reason, make sure you are paying attention to the terrain---the trrain is where the cheetah has to run down the Gazelle---Gazelle needs to be more watchful than the Cheetah.

2. In the day time, pay attention to bridges, shadows, broken down cars parked on the shoulders, your rear view mirror, and at least 2 miles scanning of the shoulders and road ahead of you, where plain view is possible. At night, know the head light configuration of the cops in your area. Crown vics are easy to tell.

3. When cop stops you, make him/her feel like king/queen with complete obedience--regardless of whatver rights you think you have---remember, you have no rights in jail and your wallet is not subject to rights. When cops ask you why you are speeding, tell them you have no reason to speed, and that you are foolish---which is true. Make sure you call yourself a fool/dummy, and to the cops hearing. Nothing makes cops happier than to see a person embarass and down themselves in humility and submission. Worst case scenario, he might even reduce the actual ticket he intended to give you. Cops hate argument and arrogance. When a cop stops you, you have probably committed 4 offenses in his mind. Your humility and submission will reduce each offense in his mind as he observes your attitude and demeanor.

4. Remember, that it is scary for a cop to chase down a driver---trust me, it is a hair-raising experience for a cop because they never know what the outcome might become. So, their aggression is well founded, because there are lots of dangerous people out there willing to do harm to whomever. Cops see a lot of madness in our society on a daily and routine basis.

5. Cops tend to hang out on the left shoulder of the road at night. They also tend to hang out on the right shoulder of the road in the day time. The only exception to this observation is if the left shoulder also has a grass field, or that the cop is the at the top of a hilly road at night, under an over pass bridge.

6. Radar detectors are deceptive. I got more tickets using them than without them. So, I had to train myself to think like cops in terms of where they hide and their thinking process. So, I discarded my radar detector over 10 years ago.

7. Each ticket you get should help you build a framework for future caution in your terrain. A cop is a human being just like you---only better trained. Nothing stops you from being as smart as they are on the road.

8. Never ever speed on any road with 45 miles an hour limit, or less. Cops will eat you alive if they ever catch you. They are more forgiving when they clock you doing 15 over a 70 mile and hour speed limit.

9. Cops have a heart! Beleive me when I say this! Cops are human just as you and I. Your behavior and demeanor, when they stop you, determines to a great extent, what happens afterward. The more submissive and cooperative you are, the better off it will be for you. Don't argue and don't say stupid things to a cop. Speek in proper english, and with some respect to a cop. Trust me, I have been stopped thrice in my G-35 Coupe for speeding and have been let go each time. For this, i am thankful to cops and all they do for our society. Cops are extremely very good at reading human behavior and body language.

10. Extended periods of speeding is the fastest way to get caught. Your car is so obvious to a cop even from 1 mile away. Drive with caution and stay safe.
