lol i thought you were saying you go 35-34mph on the highway...i was going to say...Vahagn23 wrote:lol thanks, still wierd they write 140, but the car opens way less, lol but i found out I get really good MPG on highway like 35 or 34, I went almost 300 miles with half tank, lol but on streets it gets me to around 15mpg max, what a gas saver lol

Fastest I have took the versa is 115~117 somewhere around there. 140mph in the versa?! I wouldn't suggest it unless you have some suspension upgrades+better equiped tires.
It's standard practice for auto manufacturers to put speeds way beyond the vehicle top speed on the speedometer. Just because the Versa speedo says 140 doesn't mean it'll get there.Vahagn23 wrote:lol i dont know does it go 140? because on the speedometer it says 140mph the top. Thats why im asking what is the versa's top speed?
Huhwhat? 15 mpg max in town? How are you driving this thing? Our Versa gets no less than 27 mpg in town and a little better if you catch more green lights. We've reached 30 mpg in city driving a couple times. I can see getting down to 25 or so if we gunned it a lot, but sheesh, 15 seems really low.Vahagn23 wrote:but i found out I get really good MPG on highway like 35 or 34, I went almost 300 miles with half tank, lol but on streets it gets me to around 15mpg max, what a gas saver lol
Really? I thought the V was regulated to 120mph.blackversaatl wrote:I actually took mine up to 135 once. I would really say it's more like a 120-130mph topping out car. I GUESS it could go 140, I GUESS. You would either need some serious mods, a VERY steep hill, a long *** road, or nitrous/forced induction to do it though LOL!
WOW are you sure???blackversaatl wrote:I actually took mine up to 135 once. I would really say it's more like a 120-130mph topping out car. I GUESS it could go 140, I GUESS. You would either need some serious mods, a VERY steep hill, a long *** road, or nitrous/forced induction to do it though LOL!
Perhaps 140 is a "top-speed" number often chosen so the proportionality of the speedometer's scale is pleasing to the eye? I mean, if they chose 200 mph, then they'd have to cram that many more lines along the scale and probably decrease the font size as well. Plus, giving an inflationary top-speed to the speedometer probably provides a feeling of sportiness to some drivers.Vahagn23 wrote:lol im not, just asking, because its interesting how most cars I seen have 140 top speed on their speedometer, but different HPs

Plus, 1/2 of 140 is 70 - a common speed limit on many interstate highways, and on a scale from 0 to 140, 70 would be positioned at the very middle (top). So it also helps make the speedo symmetrical.
I have no idea if any of this is the true basis for displaying speeds up to 140 mph, but it all makes sense to me.
I was just racking my brain thinking "why would 140 be a common top speed?" and out came those ideas. Who knows for sure, but I bet the "real" answer is somewhere along those lines.Vahagn23 wrote:cool thanks
Of corse not EV...I only perform these types of driving conditions on my own personal freeway I had built.Ever Victorious wrote:

Not that anyone should be operating ANY vehicle that fast on public highways.
Well Srellim, as a saftly procedure, every time I drive a new car I preform what I call "How fast can my car go just incase of an emergency." But at the same time I don't want to get my car to the point where it is maxing out. So I learn where that maxing out point is just incase of an emergeny so I can stay slightly below that. It keeps me going where I am going and keeps my car in good shape. Its all thinking safty here.srellim234 wrote:I know I'm one of the conservative "old fuddy-duddies" on this forum, but unless you're doing it on a track or dragstrip, why would you be so irresponsible as to endanger other people's lives just to see how fast your car will go?
I really dont think you have been 135 in a versa.. I have taken my versa up to 110 before and it was scary as **** because it is so light that it pretty much floats at high rates of speed.. And it took me like more than a half a mile to get it up to 110 so i dont know what road you were on but tell me where its atblackversaatl wrote:I actually took mine up to 135 once. Of course he hasn't. Remember, this is the same guy who posted this a while back...Skim302 wrote:I really dont think you have been 135 in a versa.. He lists "beating" cars with nearly 1/2 the 0-60 time than the Versa (which tells me his "opponents" didn't know they were "racing").blackversaatl wrote:I've beaten (IN STOCK TRIM) with the CVT transmission....

I don't recall endangering anyones life but my own.srellim234 wrote:So do you perform this "test" on a track under controlled conditions or do you just endanger lives now for the purpose of being safe in a hypothetical situation that may never happen in the future?
Ah, but therein lies the rub. Whilst traveling said speeds, you aren't going to be able to safely react to, say, a broken down car on the highway or something similar.lain wrote:
