I actually have one from a 94 but not sure if it would work with your 96... Be sure to check your cluster first as this was my problem... The damn thing would jump all over the place. First thing to do is check the voltage coming out of the speed sensor. You can disconnect from wire harnest and run to wires to the ohm tester. Either with both drive wheels off the ground or while driving. Voltage range is in the FSM as I'm at work right now. If it's within spec than it's the speedometer in the dash. You don't need a whole cluster just the speedo. I would test the speed sensor as it's eaiser to get to the transmission than taking the dash apart. Or if you do take the dash out you can test both then... your call. Of course I found this info out AFTER I bought the speed sensor. :-) Is your speed sensitive stearing acting up as well? Speedo controls this too...
