i need to buy a speed sensor for my sr but do i get one for a s13 ( 96 180sx blacktop ) or for a s14 (95 240sx)

You use the speed sensor that correlates to your chassis.

If you have an S13 240SX you can use the USDM S13 KA speed sensor or the JDM S13 SR speed sensor.

If you have an S14 240SX you can use the USDM S14 KA speed sensor or the JDM S14 SR speed sensor.

Is the speed sensor also responsible for operating the odometer, cruise control, and back-up lights? These are the three things, besides my speedometer, that do not work on my S13.

the speed sensor only drives the speedometer and the maybe the odometer (can't remember on that one). Was your car and auto or manual before the conversion? Auto cars need to have some special wiring done to them to make the back up lights work, and as far as cruise goes, I have never been able to get the cruise to work on a converted car.

Use a 95 240 usdm speed sensor and gear.
