Trying to remove the VSS on my 97 Pathfinder SE 4x4. FSM simply says "remove". Looks easy enough. One small bolt and pull it out but the freakin thing won't budge. Tried tapping it lightly with a hammer to loosen it up and pulling it as hard as I can with pliers but it won't move at all. Even tried locking vise grips on it and prying on the grips but even that doesn't budge it, not the least bit. Does it just pull out or is there a trick to this  . Can't find anything that would indicate it doesn't just pull out. Its starting to crumble apart trying to get it off. Help me before I do something stupid. TIA

VSS, SB and GY wires, VSS and RPM sensor, I am looking for where you are working, can you describe the sensor and purpose and its location?

The electrical section and the transmission section of the manual has some detail, but tell me its exact location and I will try to help.

Found it page EC 252, has a gear inside the trans-axle, looks like an "O" ring all around. There must be a locking device that undoes then you pull straight out but you have to get over that "O" ring. The gear should let go.

This is a small gen set for reference, if you break it up it will be toast. Describe how it's positioned can you put a large flat driver into the groove and pry it out, is there enough room to work?

Thanks. That's the one. I finally got it off today. It was plugged into the transfer case horizonatally on the passenger side. Pretty tight area and had to remove some brackets and lower the trans to get better access. Ended up soaking the mating surface with Kroil after the bolt was removed and tapping on the flange ear with a screwdriver and hammer to rotate the vss and break the bond. No room to use plier to twist it. Then locked a vise grip on it horizontally and used a bar to pry the vise grip using the transger case for leverage. After a few tries it finally popped out. Thanks for the help.

Now that it's off can you determine what is wrong with it. The book says it puts out low voltage.
